MUSIC UNITES POWER OF ONE AT THE INTREPID

The Power of One event took place Thursday, March 10, 2011 at The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum’s Allison and Howard Lutnick Theatre. The Power of One program allowed students from The Bronx’s Women’s Academy of Excellence, Girls Inc.’s flagship school Urban Assembly Institute of Math & Science for Young Women in addition to the Young Women’s Leadership School to learn from the music industry’s top women power players who shared their experiences and insight about pursuing a dream.

The panel was moderated by Danyel Smith, Editor-in-Chief of Billboard magazine, and featured Singer/ songwriter/producer duo Jane’t Sewell-Ulepic and Angela Hunte, who co-wrote Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ hit Empire State of Mind, Grammy nominated songwriter Denise Rich, as well as Senior Vice President of Brand Partnerships and Commercial Licensing at the Atlantic Records Group, Camille Hackney. The Power of One event raised the students’ awareness of career opportunities in the music industry.

By hearing directly from people who have experienced, confronted and overcome challenges, Music Unites hopes that young girls will feel empowered and be encouraged to challenge themselves to pursue their own goals and dreams.
