Kerry Washington took the stage at Alice Tully Hall and offered a tribute to Georgina Chapman, noting the designer’s operatic influences (Marchesa’s spring 2010 line took a note from Madame Butterfly). Then, Santigold introduced the evening’s other honoree, dapper DJ-producer Mark Ronson, who joined protégé Daniel Merriweather for a live concert that included the pair’s popular cover of the Smiths’ “Stop Me,” from Ronson’s 2007 album Version (Ronson also produced Merriweather’s new release, Love & War). “This is an incredibly prestigious award and it feels a bit premature in my career, but I’m grateful,” Ronson modestly observed, joking “I don’t know who to thank—people always thank Harvey Weinstein, and he actually is in the building tonight.”
